CONTEXT:
The brief for this assessment is to design a stool for a contemporary domestic environment. It must provide the functional utility of a stool (being able to be sat upon, or used as an occasional side table). In addition, the design should provide further affordance or aspects of utility that enhance (without dominating) the product's overall appeal.
This project was a group project with Bobber Wang, Emily Fei, Laura Cameron with Chris Warren where my design was chosen to be developed as a team.
DESIGN:
Canti consists of a steam-bent cantilevered Ash top that forms both the seat and storage component. The angled legs provide tension, reaching across the design to ground the design to the floor. This gives the stool a unique aesthetic; as though the top is balanced on the legs. Hidden steel brackets further strengthen the critical joint function.
